Gene testing for keratoconus
Project Introduction
Keratoconus is a type of eye disease characterized by central or paracentral dilation and thinning of the cornea, which protrudes forward in a conical shape. It often causes highly irregular astigmatism and significant decline in late stage vision, leading to blindness; Some patients may experience acute corneal edema, which may leave scars after the edema subsides. This disease occurs more frequently during adolescence and progresses progressively. It is one of the important blinding eye diseases in China.

Detection range
Based on the cutting-edge research results in the field, 31 highly recognized pathogenic gene mutation sites (6 genes) and 12 susceptible risk sites (10 genes) related to keratoconus were screened, comprehensively covering the key genes related to keratoconus currently discovered in the research field, such as VSX1, ZNF469, TUBA3D, etc.
Intended for
Clinical suspicion of keratoconus;
Have a family history of keratoconus;
Preoperative examination for corneal refractive surgery.

Patient benefits

Early diagnosis :
Latent and early stage patients cannot be diagnosed by routine clinical testing, while genetic testing can effectively detect keratoconus caused by genetic factors in these two stages.
Early diagnosis can be effectively treated through corneal collagen cross-linking surgery, while in late stages, only corneal transplantation can be performed.
Disease prevention :
For individuals with a family history or suspected of carrying related gene mutations, assessing the risk of disease through testing provides a basis for disease prevention.
Risk assessment :
Preoperative examination of corneal refractive surgery can improve the detection rate of keratoconus and avoid serious adverse consequences after surgery.
Disease treatment:
Distinguish the causes of keratoconus and develop different treatment plans for keratoconus caused by genetic and non genetic factors.
